Sri Lanka

My first trip from Dubai!! The farthest that I have travelled East, and the first time I have seen the Indian Ocean!!! This is a beautiful country full of wonderful places and very kind people. I travelled with two friends from school, we had a planned tour with our own driver which helped everything go very smoothly. It is not easy to get from place to place because of small curvy roads but we managed. We got to go inland toward Giritale and a national park for a jeep safari. It was amazing to see monkeys on the road and other animals out in the open! We travelled to Sigiriya  which is an old rock fortress that we climbed 1202 steps to the top. This was not easy especially with my fear of heights, but I put my head down and went up as fast as I could!
We then spent the night in Kandy, an old colonial town where we saw a native dance performance and visited the Temple of the Tooth Relic! We then drove down to the southern coast to Unawatuna which was a great beach town! From there we visited a fort at Galle and walked along old fort walls, explored the streets and shops of this cute town, saw the lighthouse and watched the sunset!!!
On the way back to Colombo we took a river cruise and saw cinnamon farms and participated in a fish pedicure! You stick your feet in a pond of fish and they nip off your dry skin! Tickles like crazy and can hurt too but definitely worth it!! Last stop was a turtle hatchery where we could hold baby turtles and injured ones. This part of the country was hit by the tsunami back in 2004 and it was interesting to hear stories and see the results of that. I loved the greenness everywhere and the beauty of this country. The people treated us well and were very respectful. I enjoyed visiting and learning about a new place!

Beach year round.....

Who doesn't love the beach! Going on walks, collecting shells, people watching, seeing what creatures wash up on shore nut mostly just relaxing in the sun......

Desert!!!

A brave group of four went dune bashing through the sand dunes, almost like sledding high speed through sand!!! Stomachs were not too happy but it was beautiful!!

Halloween in Dubai

I really had no idea American holidays would be celebrated here but Halloween was a blast inside and outside school! We had a huge elementary school parade with music and cameras and tons of spectators! It was great fun! At night two little vampire twins actually came trick or treating from across the hall and then there was a rooftop party for teachers at night!!
I dressed up in a high school uniform with another first grade teacher, my class thought it was great that I was a student!
School parade!

Pirate at night!!
Wonder what I should be next year?!?!

Alicia Keys!!!

First concert in Dubai was at an outdoor amphitheater!!! It was a beautiful night and so nice to hear live music.

Mosque Tour

We spent one morning visiting a local mosque in Dubai. It was a great way to learn about Muslims and the culture here. Our tour guide taught us a lot about their traditions and explained things.

Yes the prayer I knew well from watching Homeland!!

First visitor!!

My sister Amanda came to visit last week during my school holiday!! It was so nice to see a familiar face and spend time together!! Here are a few photos of the Doty Twins:

Al Barsha Pond Park

The weather has finally hit the 90's so I am able to exercise outside and go for walks. This is a park about 15 minutes away by walking. It has lots of trees, grass, and flowers whic are hard to find nearby. Aldo has walking track around pond, I usually go around sunset time and it's a wonderful place to relax and remind me of parks from Connecticut.

Persian Gulf and beach time!!!

Authentic Dubai Fish

Yes I ate this and a bowl of shrimp too!

The fish pace is on a sandlot and you eat with your hands. Rip a piece of bread and use it to take a chunk of meat and it was so good!

Deb--- aren't you proud of me!

Sandstorm!!!!

My first experience with this type of weather, only bad for 15 minutes and I was already back at my apartment!

Some sights to share

Things continue to go well here in Dubai. Here are some of the places I have explored. There are tons of mosques everywhere but this one on top was beautiful with tile!!! The water taxis are in Old Dubai. The last picture is in a part that I have explored a lot!! The weather continues to be too hot to do too much outside!!!

Relaxation method!

This is the pool on my rooftop! It has a great view and is a great way to cool down and relax both during the day and at night! Although I did get locked up here one night which was quite exciting! Luckily a friend in another building came to our rescue!
